Mississippi School of the Arts celebrates the Media Arts department for receiving Scholastic Art awards. Film students submitted work to the Scholastic Art Mississippi Regional Competition. According to John Kelly Shelburne, the program’s instructor, this was the first time for the program to submit to Scholastic Art Competition.

“This year, Media Arts students submitted to Scholastics in the Film and Animation category for the first time. It was exciting to have two talented students receive Honorable Mention this year and joining the Literary Arts and Visual Arts in receiving state-wide recognition for our Department,” said Shelburne.

Jamien Wright received Honorable Mention in the Film and Animation category for work titled “Cats always land on their feet.”

Jade Stokes received Honorable Mention in the Film and Animation category for work titled “Orange Magic.”

Both students will be recognized on April 12th at the Mississippi Musuem of Art in Jackson, MS.

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers. The Alliance is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to identify students with exceptional artistic and literary talent and present their remarkable work to the world through the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. The Awards give students opportunities for recognition, exhibition, publication, and scholarships. In 2023, students across the United States and Canada entered more than 300,000 original works in 28 different categories of art and writing.
