Technology: Wireless Internet Access (Wi-Fi)

About MSA Wi-Fi

Students are offered wi-fi broadband internet using a personal or school laptop device on the school’s wireless student network. Wireless internet access is available inside and along the perimeter of all campus buildings.

The MSABROOKHAVEN network is a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) compatible service. Mississippi School of the Arts allows you to bring your own device (computer, phone, tablet) to the campus in order to use this service. Although smartphones and other digital devices are allowed by students on campus, teachers and administrators may impose policies for device usage in the classroom.

Wired Ethernet Connections

MSA Technology no longer provides wired ethernet connections to the network for personal devices. Please make sure your device is capable of connecting wirelessly. USB-powered wi-fi adapters are available at most electronics stores. It’s encouraged that you purchase a wireless adapter that can connect to 5GHz wireless to minimize potential interference from the crowded 2.4GHz spectrum.

How to Connect

  1. Browse wi-fi connections and locate MSABROOKHAVEN in capital letters.
  2. Enter the WPA2 passphrase. The password may be retrieved from posted signage at MSA or by contacting the technology department.

Prohibited Usage

While utilizing wi-fi network services at Mississippi School of the Arts, guests, employees, and students shall not:

  • Set up a wireless extender, bridge, or router connected to the campus’ wi-fi network for the purpose of extending a network signal.
  • Use a wireless device to intentionally interfere with communications and devices on the wireless local area network.
  • Use the network to access bit torrent or any other unapproved file sharing programs for the purpose of downloading illegal content.
  • Circumvent protective content filters using a VPN app or proxy server.
  • Engage in inappropriate behavior that jeopardizes the integrity of Mississippi School of the Arts.
  • Violate terms in MSA’s Acceptable Use Policy, or state or federal laws.

For questions regarding usage, please contact the technology department.
