mta-dramafest2016While prospective parents and students from all over Mississippi were visiting Mississippi School of the Arts for Experience MSA Day, several students from our school’s Department of Theatre were in Hattiesburg the same day racking up awards at the Mississippi Theatre Association’s DramaFest 2016 for the southern district.

Receiving a spot in the All-Star Cast were seniors Serena Slie and Jaelon Love. Best Actor award went to senior Levarious Goods. Mississippi School of the Arts received the Distinguished Play Award. John Hollins, a senior MSA Literary Arts student, received 1st place in Youth Playwriting for his piece “Trouble on Olympus”.

Mississippi School of the Arts will advance to the Mississippi Theatre Association’s Statewide Festival in January 2017 at the University of Southern Mississippi.

Senior theatre students in attendance included Cameron Kitchens, Jaelon Love, Levarious Goods, Al’Rasyah Fairley, Anna Tyner, Serena Slie, Nathaniel Jones, Kaitlyn Whitehead, John Ward, Kennon Bateaste, Joh’nelle Hahn, Kayla Moore, and Jatavius Haynes.
