King Alvarado – Guest Artist Residency

A native of Jackson, MS, King has been an artist since early childhood when her parents recognized her talent and nurtured it through a diverse arts education and opportunities. She is an actress, choreographer and arts educator, but her role as executive director combines them all under the title arts advocate.

After graduating from Mississippi School of the Arts, King attained her BFA in Dance Education from the University of Southern Mississippi. Her professional and academic careers have seen her in public school stages, university studios, competition ballrooms and lecture halls. Determined to be a life-long learner, educator and creator, King is currently pursuing an MFA in Choreography from Jacksonville, University.

King is the Executive Director/Artistic Director of Southern Black Arts Council, a nonprofit arts advocacy and education organization in Clarksville, Tennessee.

I am arts educator with a passion for service & people. My experience spans early childhood, elementary and secondary education to higher education. As an educator, I share knowledge and experiences with historically excluded communities and empower them to find the greatness within.
